17-year-old stabbed in fight at Hollywood Transit Center, suspect arrested

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 17-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries when he was stabbed in a fight involving 20 people at the Hollywood Transit Center.

Emergency crews responded to the 4100 block of Northeast Halsey Street at around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The victim was found suffering from traumatic injuries described by police as life-threatening. Witnesses said he was seen bleeding from the neck. He was taken to a Portland hospital.

Police said the victim is expected to survive.

Investigators said they received reports that around 20 "kids" had been fighting leading to the stabbing. Witnesses reported seeing several people run away from the scene and get on a westbound MAX train.

One witness said employees at a 24 Hour Fitness rushed out to help.

"Two of the employees from the gym came out and saw where he was and got him to the curb, sat him down and started applying towels and pressure to his neck," she said. 

Additional officers responded to the Lloyd Center MAX Station and contacted a group of people possibly involved in the incident.

Police said they have arrested a 16-year-old boy and is being taken to Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home. Charges have not been determined.

The investigation is continuing and no additional details were released by police.
