GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A man initially accused of sexually abusing a developmentally disabled 18-year-old he met at a 7-Eleven store pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted prostitution.

Gresham police arrested Dmitriy Kuzik, 49, in February at the Rodeway Inn on the 2300 block of Northeast 181st Avenue.

Investigators said the victim in this case has the mental capacity of someone much younger, which was recognizable in the way she speaks.

Police said she started a conversation with Kuzik at the 7-Eleven store at Southeast 148th and Stark Street, believing she knew him.

Detectives said after she realized he was not who she thought he was, Kuzik continued talking to her and convinced her to go to the motel with him.

The woman told police Kuzik sexually abused her and convinced her not to call out for help, even though she was frightened.

She texted a friend around 1 p.m. with the name of the motel and said she was not allowed to leave the room, according to police.

The friend called 911, leading police to the motel.

Kuzik was arrested at the scene. He was originally facing charges of kidnapping and sex abuse. Those charges were dismissed on March 8, but the district attorney said the case remained under investigation.

On March 15, Kuzik was indicted on new charges of prostitution, unlawful prostitution procurement activity, meth possession and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Investigators said he works as a long-haul trucker. While he was not working at the time of the incident, police said there was concern regarding possible additional victims, since his job takes him across the country.

Police said, however, there is no evidence of other victims and Kuzik does not have a criminal record.

Kuzik pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted prostitution in August and his other charges were dismissed. He was sentenced to five months in jail on Nov. 29.
