ELBERTON, GA (KPTV) -

A Georgia veterinarian's hands-on approach to caring for a rescued stray dog has made him a big hit online.

In a video posted on Facebook, Dr. Andy Mathis of Granite Hills Animal Care in Elberton, Georgia sits in a kennel with Graycie, who is shy and has been having trouble eating.

To help her adjust, Mathis eats his own meal from a metal bowl while hand-feeding Graycie. She then follows his lead and begins eating on her own.

Mathis said Graycie was in bad shape when someone found her on a dirt road on Jan. 29. She was dehydrated, 20 pounds underweight, hypothermic and had serious injuries.

Though he originally thought she'd have to be put down, Mathis said Graycie has gotten the medical care she needs and has been improving, though she's still shy.

Graycie will go up for adoption after she receives some more medical care, recovers and gets more comfortable with people and other animals.

More information on Graycie and her story can be found at the Granite Hills Animal Care Facebook page.
