PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 20-year-old woman was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges including DUII for a crash that killed her passenger.

Destini Washington was arrested in April 2015.

Emergency crews responded to Northeast 33rd and Columbia Boulevard at 3 a.m. after a car hit a large concrete overpass pillar.

Washington was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Her passenger, 19-year-old Alexandria Cooper, was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Washington was driving at high rates of speed when she lost control of the car.

On Wednesday, she pleaded guilty to charges of criminally negligent homicide and DUII. She was initially facing additional charges including second-degree manslaughter, reckless endangering and reckless driving.

Washington was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay nearly $3,000 in restitution to the victim's family.
