NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

Police responded to reports of a man waving a gun in the air with his finger on the trigger outside a Subway restaurant in Newport.

Jeffrey Owen Stamps, 21, was eventually arrested and the gun was determined to be a replica.

Officers responded to Subway on the 1500 block of North Coast Highway at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

While they were on the way, officers learned an employee of TCB Security who was in the area followed a vehicle associated with the suspect on Highway 101 and into the Fred Meyer parking lot.

As officers arrived, they were advised the suspect with the gun had walked into the store.

Three others were detained near the vehicle, while officers and deputies searched inside Fred Meyer.

The suspect was found walking north on Highway 101 in front of a Safeway store. He was detained and police said they found a replica semi-automatic 1911 handgun tucked in his waistband.

Stamps was arrested for second-degree disorderly conduct and booked into the Lincoln County Jail with bail set at $10,000.
