Clackamas County company to accept all donations of whole body remains

Posted: Updated:

A Clackamas County business aims to save families thousands of dollars on funeral expenses, if their loved ones donate their bodies to scientific study.

According to the owner, Fineas Lupeiu, Aeternitas Life is the first whole body tissue donation center in the state of Oregon that will guarantee a donation will be accepted.  Fineas said other centers may refuse whole body donations based on age, weight, or travel history.

Lupeiu said his company will take all donations, with no cost to the donor or the donor’s family.

“It’s a free alternative to a traditional funeral or cremation, which may be unaffordable for many families,” said Lupeiu.

Lupeiu works with hospice care centers, which inform patients of the option to donate their bodies to science.  Transportation to his facility is free of charge, and families can also opt to have some of their loved ones’ remains cremated and returned to them at no cost.

“The financial burden is completely eliminated.  There's peace of mind that your donation will be used with the utmost care,” said Lupeiu.

Donated cadavers will be kept in cold storage at Aeternitas, and eventually transferred to a research center or teaching hospital.

Aeternitas is licensed by the State of Oregon as a medical facility.
