Police: Woman injured in SE Portland shooting

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police say a shooting that woke up neighbors in a Southeast Portland neighborhood was the result of domestic violence.

The suspect was later found dead, police say, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police have not named either the victim nor the suspect in this case.

Neighbors say they heard five to seven shots about 6:20 Saturday morning.

A man who lives in the 12400 block of SE Raymond where the shooting happened said he heard several bangs, followed by a pause, and then maybe two more shots.

Then, the man who identified himself as Bob told Fox 12 that he went to the window and saw a black SUV racing away. He opened the door and said he heard moaning.

Bob and other neighbors came to help and to call police and paramedics. The woman's father was also huddled over his bleeding daughter.

Neighbors say it appears the young woman was shot at least twice, once in her shoulder and once in her abdomen. Bob says she was incoherent at first but then became more alert, "she was actually able to respond to me so I'm with her trying to control her breathing so she's not hyperventilating."

The woman was taken to a local hospital and her estranged boyfriend was found shortly afterwards about a half-mile way at 134th and Holgate. He was dead. Police say he killed himself.
