PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Two people escaped a southeast Portland house fire and two cats were rescued from the burning building.

Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to a house fire on the 3800 block of Southeast Knight Street at 8:45 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the eaves of the house, which indicated the fire was in the attic.

Crews went inside to fight the fire. They also cut holes in the roof to let the heat and smoke out.

Two people in the home got out safely and no injuries were reported. Two cats were found in the house and safely removed, according to firefighters.

The Portland Fire & Rescue Arson Squad is investigating the cause of the fire. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
