EUGENE, OR (KPTV) -

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined Ninkasi Brewing in Eugene alleging the company failed to monitor stormwater discharge for a variety of pollutants.

DEQ reports that under conditions of its stormwater permit, Ninkasi is required to monitor stormwater discharge for benchmark levels of acidity, total suspended solids, oil and grease, copper, lead and zinc.

The company must also monitor for arsenic and iron.

DEQ said the violations occurred during the 2014-2015 monitoring year.

The fine against Ninkasi is $6,777.

"DEQ issued the penalty because it relies on monitoring reports to ensure stormwater discharge is protective of human health and the environment. DEQ also relies on monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of stormwater controls," according to a release from the agency.

Ninkasi has until March 2 to appeal.
