A bicyclist was seriously injured after he attempted to cross train tracks in Tualatin and was struck by a WES Commuter Rail train.

Tualatin Police were dispatched to the area south of SW Boones Ferry Road and SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road around 5:25 p.m. Tuesday.

When police arrived, they found Timothy Nester, 48, of Tualatin, with serious injuries. Bystanders were already administering first aid to Nester.

Police said initial investigation revealed that the WES Train was leaving the Tualatin Station, headed south towards Wilsonville. As the train approached a pedestrian crossing, Nester tried to cross from the east side of the tracks and rode directly into the path of the train, and was hit.

According to police, safety equipment which includes flashing lights and horns appear to have been activated and working properly at the time of the incident.

Nester was taken to a local hospital. His current condition is unknown at this time.

The Transit Police Division are continuing to investigate the collision.
