PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Here's a distinction that Milton-Freewater likely doesn't want: Title of most miserable city in Oregon.

The small city in Umatilla County landed in the top spot on 'regional infotainment' website RoadSnacks.net's list of the least happy towns in the state.

Many of Oregon's smaller, rural towns ranked highly on the list, while many of the Portland metro area's more affluent communities ranked as some of the happiest.

Here are the top 10 most miserable cities in Oregon, according to RoadSnacks:

  1. Milton-Freewater
  2. Madras
  3. Sheridan
  4. Ontario
  5. Woodburn
  6. Umatilla
  7. Klamath Falls
  8. Gresham
  9. Monmouth
  10. Springfield

RoadSnacks used data such as the percentage of residents with college degrees, percentage of married couples, unemployment rates and costs of living to come up with the list.

The list only includes cities with at least 2,000 residents.

So which city can claim the title of least miserable in Oregon? That honor goes to the Bethany area of Washington County. Stafford, in Clackamas County, and Cedar Mill are the second and third least miserable communities on the list, respectively.
