PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Reverend Jesse Jackson spoke in Portland Wednesday, celebrating Black History Month and working with local minority leaders and staff from Intel.

The effort was part of a bigger plan to increase opportunities for minorities working in technology.

He said one of the main issues facing many minorities in the tech sector is access to capital and funding rather than a lack of talent, adding that many of the issues stem from the presence of an uneven playing field.

“We didn't know how good baseball could be until everybody could play, we don't know how good technology can be until everyone can function in their own skill set,” Jackson said. “We cannot be trying to find H-1B workers from foreign countries when we have undeveloped youth right in our own midst. There’s no skill set we cannot master in this arena. It will only make America stronger and make the world more secure."

Jackson said he is going to keep fighting for inclusion at large tech companies, saying that in that kind of a world everyone wins.
