PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

It's one of the most important questions young people face: what do they want to do when they grow up? On Wednesday, students from Oregon and Washington had a great opportunity to explore a lot of different options.

It’s that time of year when high school seniors start thinking about graduation and "what's next?" The annual Northwest Youth Careers Expo is geared to help them answer that question.

It pulls together the region’s top employers, exposing students to careers with companies like Nike and Columbia, and fields from construction to the health care industry. Students were able to talk with employers and even set up mock interviews.

Fox 12 spoke with one student from Benson High School who has dreams of working in the film industry. Local directors and even a crew member from the television show Grimm were there to answer questions.

"I really want help organize because I'm really good at listing things and getting phone calls and getting people together," said Benson High School student Lisa. “I'm really good at that and I want to do something like that."

A nonprofit called Portland Workforce Alliance helps put together the event. Its goal is to build partnerships between local businesses and high schools, boost graduation rates, and better prepare students for college or careers after graduation.

More than 7,000 students showed up to the expo Wednesday.
