An Oregon man filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, claiming a priest sexually abused him at a northeast Portland church back in the 1980s.

The lawsuit was filed against the Holy Rosary Church and the Dominican order. In the lawsuit, the man claims the abuse started when he was 8-years-old and continued for a decade.

The lawsuit also claims the priest, Father Emmerich Vogt, would kiss the boy on the mouth repeatedly and touch him inappropriately.

FOX 12 spoke with the man's lawyer, who said his client told other priests at the church when it was happening.

"My client was told by the priests, to whom he reported this behavior, to not talk about it anymore and to simply ignore the behavior, that he wasn't to question the priest, he was to obey him," said Lawyer Kristian Roggendorf.

A lawyer defending both the church and Father Vogt sent a statement to FOX 12 saying:

Father Vogt vehemently denies ever sexually abusing the plaintiff, who is using the pseudonym David Smith. We intend to vigorously defend these allegations in court. In addition, the plaintiff was born in 1977, and the alleged child abuse took place over 20 years ago.  While the current child abuse statute of limitations allows other plaintiffs to sue until age 40, it does not apply to this plaintiff. Therefore, this lawsuit was not timely commenced. We will seek to have it dismissed on that basis.
