PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

After four years in downtown Portland, the city’s Right 2 Dream Too camp is officially pulling up stakes and heading across the river.

The city council voted 4-1 Wednesday to approve the camp’s move to a city-owned lot at SE 3rd and SE Harrison.

The area is primarily industrial, and businesses there have long had reservations about the move.

“Our nervousness is if the city doesn’t step up to the plate and say yes we’re going to support this encampment  but we’re going to provide the necessary resources around it to make sure the neighborhood stays positive and embraces it,” said Kyle Ranson, a small business owner.

Ranson said he supports the idea of finding a place for the city’s homeless, but also said he’s run into problems with the small camps already in the area, with an increase in graffiti on his building, and more garbage in the streets.

Ibrahim Mubarak, one of the camp’s founders, said the move is a win-win for the city and Right 2 Dream Too.  He also believes the camp will be a good neighbor to the businesses in the area.

“We’re going to have restrooms, we’re going to have laundry facilities, we’re going to have showers, we’re going to have a kitchen,” said Mubarak. “The code of conduct insists that people, if they want to drugs or alcohol, that’s on them. They can’t do it in our facility.  We don’t allow paraphernalia. We don’t allow theft.”

Mubarak said the camp will move to the new site some time in October.
