GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters from Gresham Fire and Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a blaze at an apartment in Gresham early Thursday morning.

Fire crews said they arrived at the 2 story, 4 unit apartment building at 3180 NW Division St. around 3:18 a.m.

Firefighters reported seeing flames coming from the roof of the building. The building was part of a 15 building complex and crews worked to keep the fire from spreading to other buildings.

Officials said they were able to evacuate all 8 occupants safely.

The woman who lives in the apartment where the fire started said she and her kids woke up to the fire alarm and immediately ran outside.

Neighbor Barbara Silmon said she was already awake and getting ready for work when she smelled smoke and dialed 911.

"I did smell a little bit of smoke. It was very different than normal mornings here," said Silmon. "I saw more smoke and then just dialed because I knew something was wrong."

Officials said one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation after she ran back inside to get her pet.

One dog, one cat, and one snake were also rescued from the blaze.

Crews had the fire under control in under an hour. The cause is being investigated.
