LINN COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

An Oregon State Police trooper yelled into the wreckage of a serious crash involving a motorhome and a semi-trailer. A 5-year-old girl responded by crying out for help.

The trooper discovered the crash on Interstate 5 near Milepost 206 in Linn County at 3:51 p.m. Wednesday.

A motorhome had slammed into the back of a parked commercial truck and trailer on the shoulder of the off-ramp to the Oak Grove Rest Area.

The motorhome was on fire and the trooper used his fire extinguisher to knock down the flames.

The trooper and two good Samaritans then broke apart the side of the motorhome to reach the injured child.

The girl was cared for by the trooper until medical crews arrived. She was taken to the hospital with injuries described as serious.

Police said the driver of the motorhome, Sandra Bishop, 69, of Albany, and a front passenger, Michael Bunten, 26, of Bellevue, Nebraska, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, 36-year-old Sergio Valente of Corona, California, was in the truck's sleeping area and was not injured.

Investigators said the 1998 Tioga motorhome was heading south on I-5 when, for unknown reasons, it drifted onto the shoulder of the rest area off-ramp and collided with the back of the parked trailer.

The two good Samaritans who helped the girl left the scene without being identified. Oregon State Police troopers are asking for the public's help tracking them down. Anyone with information is asked to call the Springfield Area Command at 541-726-2536.
