VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Instead of his badge and uniform, Vancouver Police Officer Gerardo Gutierrez appeared in court Thursday wearing a jail jumpsuit and handcuffs. Camas Police arrested him Wednesday on charges of domestic violence assault.

According to court records, the incidents of abuse happened at his family’s home in Camas with his wife and two sons – 9 and 10 years old. His wife told investigators about Gutierrez’s violent temper and how he allegedly pulls the boys’ hair and ears, slaps them in the face, pinches them and pins their arms behind them and drags them. She also accused him of slamming one of the boys down on the floor.

Gutierrez is the school resource officer at Mountain View High School. Freshman Connor Woolsey says students were very surprised to hear about his arrest.

“He seems like a calm, relaxed guy and he’s nice and stuff.”

According to the Vancouver Police website, Gutierrez has strong ties to the Latino community and a history of investigating drugs and gangs.

The judge granted Gutierrez release from jail but he is not allowed to come within 250 feet of his wife or children. Gutierrez entered a not guilty plea and he will be back in court on March 29th.

Vancouver Police officials have placed Gutierrez on administrative leave.
