PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

It is a home away from home for many families when a loved one is in a hospital, and now it has a new look.

The Ronald McDonald East House held its grand re-opening of guest rooms Friday, after months of renovation.

Each guest room now features a mural hand-painted by local artists depicting a part of Oregon, from the coast to the Cascades.

The house looks to create a comforting escape for families as their kids are getting help in the hospital.

"We want our bedrooms our guestrooms and our entire Ronald McDonald House to feel like a very special, comforting home,” Jessica Jarratt Miller, CEO of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon, explained. “It doesn't smell like antiseptic, there's no beeping sounds and the art jumps off the walls. It’s like nothing like you see inside of a hospital."

Each room also got new flooring, led lights, furniture and smart TVs.

Donations topping $50,000 helped with the renovations.
