In the span of an hour, Timbers fans donated more than $1,600 to buy Savannah Bee, a Columbus Crew SC fan seen giving a “one-finger salute” after the 2015 MLS Cup championship, a trip to Portland for the season opener.
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The Portland Timbers home opener is just nine days away, but thanks to some wacky Timbers fans, one person watching the game won't be rooting for Portland at all.
During the Timbers MLS Cup win over Columbus last year, TV cameras captured one Crew fan clearly disappointed with the loss of her beloved team.
Let’s just say her use of a single finger was not to indicate she thought the Timbers were Number 1.
Timbers fans are also trying to raise money for youth soccer, in honor of one of their own who died suddenly earlier this month.
Pondo Kosmas was owner of the Mad Greek Deli and a huge Timbers fan. On a memorial page on TimbersArmy.org, fans can donate to the 107ist, a non-profit organization supported by the Timbers Army whose mission is to support soccer in and around Portland.
