Last Irish shop in Portland closes its doors

Posted: Updated:

The last Irish shop in the city of Portland has closed its doors after 23 years in business.

The Celtic Corner was opened by Noel Hislop, who is a native of Dublin, Ireland, in 1993.

The store was meant to be a post-retirement gig for Hislop.

It had something for everyone, including jewelry and dance shoes.

On Saturday the shop in Portland’s Hollywood District held its final day of sales.

Some loyal customers say they will be sorry they are going to miss the owner’s funny stories and seeing him.

Hislop says he and his wife will travel back to Ireland to visit for about a month soon.

When they come back they will continue to sell some of their merchandise online.
