Leap Day 2016: How will you spend your extra 24 hours?

Posted: Updated:

February 29 does not quite roll off the tongue does it? After four years, Leap Day is finally here.

Did you know:

  • People born on a leap day are known as 'leaplings' or 'leapers'.
  • A leap day is the only day of the year a woman can propose marriage to a man, according to a British tradition.
  • The first warrants for arrests in the Salem witchcraft trials were issued on February 29, 1692.
  • Some famous 'leaplings' are Dinah Shore, Tony Robbins, and Ja Rule.

Leap Day only comes every four years. So, how will you spend these extra 24 hours?

We have a list of ideas here:

  • Give back to your community by donating your time, maybe clothes that you don't wear anymore, or food to your local food pantry, etc.
  • Go on an adventure by visiting your favorite national park.
  • Try something new that you would not otherwise. Maybe it's a new food, new book, new game, new workout, try it!
  • Enjoy the city by taking a tour of Portland. The Best of Portland Tour is happening from 2-4:30 p.m. starting at Pioneer Courthouse Square.
  • Were you born on Leap Day? Pizza Hut is offering a Personal Pan Pizza to Leap Day babies with valid ID at participating locations!

No matter how you spend the extra day, enjoy it! We wont see it again until 2020.
