The Chief of the University of Oregon Police Department Carolyn McDermed announced her retirement Friday.

In September, a former University of Oregon Public Safety officer won $775,000 in a whistle blowing case against the department.

The former officer claimed he was wrongfully fired after reporting problems in the department, and jurors found the University Police Chief violated his first amendment rights.

A University of Oregon spokeswoman said they will have more information about the transition Monday.
