Car stolen from paraplegic man recovered by police

Posted: Updated:

Friday evening Ken Maul's custom car was stolen in southeast Portland.

"It was stolen within a half an hour of me being in a pub," Maul said. "I was stranded after that."

For about 20 years, Maul has been in a wheelchair and unable to use his legs. He drove his car using a hand control.

Maul said Portland Police returned his car Saturday morning, but his belongings and radio were missing.

"It doesn’t look bad on the outside," he said.

Maul said the car's engine was not working properly since it was returned to him.

Maul's girlfriend, Lisa Ellis, said his car gave him freedom.

"He does his own grocery shopping and can't use the bus like the rest of us can," Ellis said.

She has set up a GoFundMe fundraising site for Maul to help repair his car.

If you know any information regarding Maul's case, call the Portland Police Bureau.
