LINCOLN CITY, OR (KPTV) -

A chimney fire caused nearly $500,000 damage and shut down a Lincoln City hotel.

Firefighters responded to The Rodeway Inn & Suites on Southeast 1st Street at 8:40 p.m. Sunday.

Crews put out the fire on the third floor within an hour and contained it to two rooms of the hotel, but flames severely damaged a large portion of the roof and water damaged several units on the second floor.

A fire in the fireplace was determined to be the case of the blaze that rapidly vented through the roof of the third-floor room.

The 44-unit hotel is closed until further notice. Several businesses that share the first floor of the building are expected to remain open.

There were no reports of injuries and guests were moved to a neighboring hotel for the night.

North Lincoln Fire & Rescue was initially dispatched to the scene and within moments three engines, an aerial truck, a heavy rescue crew and over 20 volunteer firefighters arrived at the scene.

An additional ladder truck was called in from Newport Fire to assist North Lincoln Fire's aerial unit with roof operations. Additional engines from Nestucca Rural Fire and Depoe Bay Fire assisted, as well.
