TROUTDALE, OR (KPTV) -

Mike Weber still can't believe what he saw on his way to work Tuesday morning.

Weber was driving his car along Southeast Oxbow Drive when he saw a tree come crashing down on a SUV that was driving in front of him.

"It happened so fast I don't recall seeing brake lights," he said. "I pretty much was following her taillights. It was just getting light but it was still pretty dark out, and the tree fell on the opposite side of the road and just exploded."

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said that tree fell right on top of 30-year old Kristi Oliver's car. The tree smashed the driver's side, killing Oliver, who was pregnant.

Weber said after seeing the tree come down, he immediately pulled over.

"It hit the truck and it was like a bomb was going off,” he said. “It just went everywhere and I immediately thought, ‘This isn't going to be good.’"

Weber called 911 as he ran to check on Oliver, but by the time he got to her it was too late.

"I got to her to see if there was anything I could do. I was fearing the worst and it was the worst,” Weber said. "When I realized she was deceased, I grabbed her hand and I prayed for her, and I'll still be praying for her and her family."

A GoFundMe account was set up for Oliver’s family, hoping to raise money to help her husband and their 3-year-old son Mikey.

As Weber prays for Oliver's family, he is also asking why?

"Why wasn't it me? I was right behind her, I was just a 100 yards or so behind, how it wasn't me I don't understand that either."
