KEIZER, OR (KPTV) -

A fire caused extensive damage to a Keizer duplex Tuesday morning.

Keizer Fire District responded to the fire, located on Pierce Drive N, around 7:53 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from one of the garages. Firefighters battled the fire from the large garage door and also cut holes in the roof to extinguish the fire that had reached the attic.

Keizer Fire District said most of the fire was contained to one side of the duplex in the garage and attic space. The second side of the duplex only suffered minor smoke damage.

No one was home in the second side of the duplex at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Keizer Fire District said the man living in the duplex where the fire started said he awoke to his mattress on fire and evacuated the home with his dog.

Estimated damage done to the duplex is $100,000, and damage to the contents of the home was estimated at $15,000.
