PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A reward is being offered to help identify a suspect who shot and killed a man in southeast Portland.

Police responded to a home on the 6900 block of Southeast 110th Avenue at 5:06 p.m. Sunday on a report of an unconscious man who had been shot.

Gary Jay Baechler, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical examiner conducted an autopsy and determined Baechler died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators aren’t sharing details about the case, but his sister said she can’t imagine who would take his life.

“You don’t know when something like this is going to happen, and it wasn’t supposed to happen. Not to my brother,” Tammie Baechler said. “It was just unreal to think that somebody could do that because he would give you the shirt off his back.”

Tammie hadn’t seen her brother since October, but she thought he was happy and doing well. She said he wasn’t perfect, but he lived a good life and surrounded himself with decent people.

“If he was your friend, he was your friend for life,” Tammie said. “It was that bond, it was just like cement. It wasn’t breaking.”

Along with being a loyal friend, Tammie said her brother was good at everything, loved to ride motorcycles and adored his three kids and three grandkids.

Her family can’t believe Baechler is gone and now they’re asking anyone who can bring them justice to please come forward.

Police said there is no suspect information at this time.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
