New chickenpox vaccine requirement for HS students in Washington

Posted: Updated:
OLYMPIA, WA (KPTV) -

There's a new chickenpox vaccine requirement for Washington schools.

All public and private Washington high school students will be required to get two doses of the chickenpox vaccine before they enter the 2016-2017 school year.

Chickenpox is a contagious disease that causes an itchy rash, fever, and sometimes severe illness.

Parents are encouraged to get their teens vaccinated soon to avoid any last minute rush.

Students are not required to be vaccinated if they have already had two doses of the vaccine, have had chickenpox in the past, or have had blood test showing they are immune.
