The Oregon Zoo hopes to save turtles at Troutdale park

TROUTDALE, OR (KPTV) -

The Oregon Zoo is looking to help save turtles by building a temporary fence at a Troutdale park.

The Sandy River Basin Watershed Council has been tearing out non-native, invasive plants in Sandy River Delta Park.

This is where a temporary fence lines a spot near the water, with funding by the Oregon Zoo.

It is all designed to provide a safe nesting spot for the Western Painted Turtle, which has lived there for decades.

Western Painted Turtles are classified as ‘Critical’ on Oregon’s sensitive species list.

The council hopes taking these steps will help build the turtle’s population.
