PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Some die hard Timbers fans are camping out days before the big season opener, hoping to score the best seats possible for the game on Sunday.

Fans say there’s no better way to spend the night than under the roof of a tent, in the shadows of Providence Park, with droves of Timbers fans by their side.

“You know people they get curious especially, wondering what are you guys doing, or otherwise why do you do this especially, but it basically goes back to one statement: for love of the game,” fan Chase Smith said.

Many fans have been camped out all day. Including people like Gary Buckler, who is holding down the fort for his family, hoping he’s there early enough to secure the seats he’s had for years.

“I sit in 207, upper bowl, mainly I sit there because you walk in and I don’t have to climb stairs, because I’ve had a bad knee for a while,” Buckler said. “It's a lot of fun. I'm really really happy that we have a city that loves soccer so much."

Since all of the spots in the Timber's Army are general admission, fans are waiting in line to secure a wristband that will give them early access to seats.

“We try to get front row, the ultimate goal is 104 or 105 near the middle to left of the post,” fan Matt Hanson explained.

Opening game kicks off March 6, 2016 at 1:30 pm.
