PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man was arrested in northwest Portland Thursday after discarding a loaded handgun, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Police said a Central Precinct Officer in the area of Northwest 6th Avenue and Glisan Street saw a man riding a bicycle and looking into parked cars using a flashlight at 10:57 p.m.

The officer, who was concerned that the man was looking to prowl a car attempted to stop him, but the man rode away on his bicycle.

As the officer continued to follow the man, the officer saw him throw a black stocking cap at the corner of Northwest 6th and Glisan.

When the stocking cap landed on the ground, the officer saw a handgun fall out.

Police said the officer caught up to the man and took him into custody. The gun was also seized, which officers discovered was loaded.

The suspect, Apollo Biggs, 36, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of burglary tools, carrying a concealed weapon, and interfering with a peace officer.

Biggs also had outstanding warrants of hit-and-run, criminal mischief in the second degree, driving while revoked, and a probation violation.
