KLAMATH COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A 49-year-old California man died after losing control of his car and colliding with another car on the icy roadway of Highway 97, according to police.

Emergency crews responded to Milepost 204 just south of La Pine at 8 p.m. Sunday

Investigators said a 1998 Honda Civic was heading north on Highway 97 when it crossed over the centerline and hit a 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT.

The Honda stopped on the southbound shoulder of the highway, while the Mitsubishi came to rest blocking both lanes of travel.

The driver of the Honda was identified Monday by police as 49-year-old Michael McKain of Santa Clara, California. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, 22-year-old Justin Guy, and his passenger, 21-year-old Allen Reeves, both of Klamath Falls, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

The highway was closed for more than three hours due to the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Senior Trooper Creed Cummings at 503-583-5073.
