Sundance Marina's silence flaming boat owner's frustration

Posted: Updated:

Nearly two weeks after a massive fire destroyed hundreds of boats at Sundance Marina, boat owners said they are having trouble reaching the company with questions about damage.

Daneille Ford said Friday she assumes she lost her $20,000 boat that was stored in the facility which went up in flames late last month.

"I heard that there's just nothing left,” Ford said. "I feel so bad. There's so many people saying they don't have insurance."

Ford said she has full insurance on her boat and filed a claim for loss reimbursement.

However, she’s still unsure exactly where the money will come from, and if the marina be responsible for any of the damage. Ford said the business won’t return her calls.

"They have all of our phone numbers--all of our emails,” Ford said. They never had a problem before to call me so they can get their money. All of a sudden they can't make a phone call."

Fire officials said the loss totals about $24 million. Crews are still investigating the blaze, but have said it’s not thought to be suspicious.

Fox 12 reached out to Sundance Marina, but an employee said the owner was not available. Fox 12’s messages were not returned.

Several other boat owners said they had either dropped insurance for the winter or reduced their coverage to liability. Some said they’re nervously waiting on the cause of the fire and worried they won’t see a penny back.

Ford said she’s already looking for another boat and hopes to be back on the water this summer.

“It's something I can replace,” Ford said. “But it kind of sucks Sundance is turning their shoulder to over 350 people."
