MARION COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

One person has died and four people were injured after a three vehicle head-on crash in Marion County Friday afternoon.

According to the Marion Co. Sheriff's Office, the crash happened at 2:45 p.m. in the area of Nusom Road Northeast and Howell Prairie Road Northeast.

When deputies arrived, the roadway was completely blocked by the vehicles.

Deputies believe Jessica Macken, 36, of Amity was driving her 2002 Kia Sportage east on Nusom Road, when she failed to negotiate a sweeping right hand turn.

Macken drove into the oncoming lane, colliding head-on with a 1994 Geo Metro driven by Phillip Rivera, 52, of Salem.

After hitting the Geo Metro, Macken's car then hit a 2001 Honda Civic head-on. The Honda Civic was driven by Marion Pacheco Jr., 24, of Silverton.

Rivera and Pacheco were co-workers at Highland Laboratories in Mt. Angel.

According to deputies, Pacheco, Macken, and her two children ages 10 and 13 were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Rivera died at the scene, according to deputies.

After an investigation, deputies arrested Macken. She is charged with manslaughter II, DUII, reckless driving, three counts of reckless endangering, and three counts of assault IV.

Deputies do suspect that marijuana use was a contributing factor to the crash.

A GoFundMe has been created for Phillip Rivera's family.
