PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

One of Portland’s most popular Irish pubs is teaming up with Uber to make sure everyone gets home safely on St. Patrick’s Day.

On Monday, the owner of Paddy’s Bar and Grill unveiled a kiosk that can test your blood alcohol level.  You simply put a plastic straw into a hole, blow for a few seconds and then a computer measures the amount of alcohol in your system – similar to Breathalyzer machines police use on DUI patrols. If the screen shows a blood alcohol level that’s above the legal limit, you’ll receive a code for a free ride home from Uber.

Paddy’s owner Josh Johnston says it’s just one more way his staff and the folks at Uber can help make it a great night.

“For us, down here we’re all about throwing the party and making sure everybody has a good time,” said Johnston. “But we’re also really interested in making sure that people make responsible decisions around drinking and driving and get home safely.”

The Uber testing kiosk will be available to patrons at Paddy’s from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday.
