Lincoln County, OR (KPTV) -

A woman carrying methamphetamine was arrested after leading deputies on a chase and crashing into a guardrail on the Oregon coast, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation in Depoe Bay at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The driver did not stop and headed toward Highway 101.

Deputies initially lost sight of the car, but witnesses at the intersection of Collins Street and Highway 101 said the driver headed north on the highway.

Deputies again spotted the car, which was making several unlawful passes at speeds around 80 mph, according to the sheriff's office. Oregon State Police set up spike strips near the intersection of Gleneden Beach Loop and Highway 101.

Two of the suspect's tires were blown out by the spike strips. The driver lost control of the car and crashed into a guardrail near Immonen Road.

Deputies said the driver then attempted to run away, but she was captured in the Siletz Bay estuary.

After being taken into custody, deputies said the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Sarah Chavez of Depoe Bay, complained of being injured in the crash. She was taken to the hospital for treatment before being booked in the Lincoln County Jail on charges of attempt to elude, reckless driving, escape and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. She also has a no bail parole warrant.
