VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Police are seeking witnesses to a crash in Vancouver that preceded the driver being shot and killed by deputies.

Clack County deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on 76th Street and 94th Avenue at 4:20 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses said the suspect was driving erratically before the crash and then walked away from the scene while yelling.

The woman, who has yet to be identified, then tried to force her way into a nearby home. Two deputies confronted the woman in the backyard of a home on the 9600 block of Northeast 81st Street.

Investigators said the woman was armed with a hammer and a knife and attacked the deputies. The woman was then shot and killed.

Neither deputy was injured in the confrontation.

On Tuesday, Vancouver police requested information from anyone who witnessed the woman's reckless driving or the crash.

Police said the woman was driving a blue Mini Cooper in the area between Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard, Northeast 76th Street and Northeast Covington Road.

At one point, she was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Covington Road and nearly hit two vehicles head-on.

Witnesses are asked to contact Vancouver Police Department Detective Barbara Knoeppel at 360-487-7436.
