NEW YORK (KPTV) -

Five Portland chefs and a Rose City bar were announced Tuesday as finalists for the 2016 James Beard Awards.

Three of the chefs will vie for the title of Best Chef: Northwest. Greg and Gabrielle Denton from Ox are joint entrants, along with Justin Woodward from Castagna.

The chefs will compete against three culinarians based out of Seattle.

European-style tavern Clyde Common will represent Portland in the category of Outstanding Bar Program against competitors from New Orleans, San Francisco and Brooklyn.

“Heartlandia: Heritage Recipes from Portland's The Country Cat,” written by chefs Adam and Jackie Sappington with Ashley Gartland is up for a Beard Foundation Book Award in the category of American Cooking.

Considered the “Dean of American Cookery,” James Beard was born in Portland in 1903 before rising to prominence in the 1940s and 1950s.

The James Beard Awards will be held May 2, with the Book, Broadcast and Journalism Awards happening April 26.
