TUALATIN, OR (KPTV) -

The Tualatin City Council adopted a policy for outdoor smoke and tobacco free City spaces.

The use of tobacco, both smoke and chew, and vaping devices will be prohibited on all City owned or managed property. Those places include parks, trails, the Tualatin Commons, core-area parking lots, the library plaza and sidewalks adjacent to City property.

The City of Tualatin said the reason for adopting this policy was public health, reducing youth smoking, fire safety, maintenance reduction and environmental harm.

The new policy will be put into effect on May 31, 2016.
