CORVALLIS, OR (KPTV) -

For the first time in 26 years the Oregon State Beavers packed up and shipped out around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to compete in the NCAA Tournament.

The team is set to play against Virginia Commonwealth University in Oklahoma City on Friday.

OSU point guard Gary Payton II said the last time Corvallis was this excited about college basketball was when his father, Gary Payton, played in the tournament in 1990.

Payton II said the team is prepared to show fans what they are made of.

“We know the intensity we need to bring,” he said. “Everybody knows the stakes of the game.”

There is a possibility of another Civil War game between the Beavers and the Oregon Ducks. If both teams win their first three games, they will meet up in the Elite Eight.

Watch OSU take on Virginia Commonwealth University at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time on TNT this Friday.

Oregon State is the only PAC-12 team to have both men and women in the tournament this year.

The Beaver women are set to play Troy in Corvallis on Friday at 2 p.m. Pacific Time.
