Neighbors thought they were just a happy middle class family, but police say there was a secret drug operation going on inside a Salem home with meth, hundreds of prescription pills and a piles of cash.

Two kids lived in the home, a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old.

“They were really nice, super nice,” neighbor Diana Delgado said of her neighbors. “We know each other, we talk to each other and they didn't see any suspicious activity or anything like that."

At around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, undercover cops set up a drug buy with Mark Porras. In a Shari's parking lot, police say Porras bought a quarter pound of meth from the detectives for $3,000.

"It's very concerning because now you don't know who's next door," said Delgado.

Cops arrested Mark Porras and then searched his home on Southeast Percherson Court. Inside, police say they found two pounds of meth, 1,400 oxycodone, steroids and nearly $30,000 in cash.

One neighbor, who did not want to be identified, watched as Hilda Porras, Mark's wife, was arrested by an undercover detective as she came home.

“She slowed down and realized what it was. She took off around the corner and so did the truck,” the neighbor said.

That neighbor said he saw this coming.

“Some of the traffic that came through here, they're a little off,” he said.

The neighbor said he saw people visiting the house that didn't look like normal visitors.

“Before it was a lot heavier, all hours of the day,” the neighbor said.

Because the two teenagers were home, police added charges of child neglect to the list of drug charges.

Police say Mark hadn’t worked in eight years and Hilda worked at a call center, but they had designer purses. Police say, the family’s money was coming from selling drugs.

The couple will have plea hearings later this month.
