PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters responded to a fire at a detached garage in southeast Portland Thursday evening.

The incident was reported in the 2000 block of SE 72nd Avenue just after 7:40 p.m., according to Portland Fire and Rescue.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the two-story detached garage. They determined there were flammable gases and chemicals, as well as a large amount of stored material inside.

As firefighters started to enter the garage, they saw the floor between the first and second story begin to collapse and got out. It took crews more than an hour to get the flames under control.

No one was inside the garage at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The Arson Squad determined the fire was accidental and it was caused by improperly discarded smoking material.

Crews will be on scene for several more hours to put out hotspots.
