PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

An 18-year-old turned himself in to police and was arrested on charges including attempted murder for a shooting in north Portland.

Police responded to North Mississippi Avenue and Jessup Street at 4:28 p.m. Thursday and found a man in his early 20s suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was conscious and alert when he was taken to the hospital, but police did not provide any further updates on his condition.

The shooting happened right next to the Cascade Campus of Portland Community College.

Witnesses said a group of guys confronted the victim, and as he turned away to leave, he was shot in the back at a range of maybe 10 feet.

Preliminary information was that the shooter left the scene in a vehicle. Officers searched the area but did not locate any suspects Thursday evening.

The Gang Enforcement Team was called out to investigate.

Police said the suspect, 18-year-old Woodgery Gelin, turned himself in Friday morning. He was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting.
