NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

Four people are recovering after having to be rescued along the Oregon Coast.

The U.S. Coast Guard was called to reports of an overturned boat near the entrance to Yaquina Bay in Newport at around 10:40 Saturday morning.

A 47-foot motor lifeboat crew were able to pull the four people off the hull of the overturned 18-foot aluminum boat and take them to the Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay.

The four people were not wearing life jackets at the time of the rescue.

The people were treated for minor injuries and taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital.

Entrance to Yaquina Bay was not restricted at the time the boat overturned, but growing swells forced the closure of the entrance to any recreational boats under 40 feet.

Crews were able to recover the boat later in the day, and pulled it onto the beach.
