PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Phil Knight has revealed his timeline for stepping down as Nike's Chairman of the Board.

Knight addressed the topic during an interview Tuesday morning on CNBC, saying he plans to leave in June.

It was the first time Knight has publicly discussed his specific plan for leaving the company he co-founded.

Last June, Nike officially announced that Knight would step down sometime in 2016, but did not provide a specific timeline.

Knight told CNBC that he's at peace with his decision, and that he believes it's "better to step down two years early than two years late".
