SPRINGFIELD, OR (KPTV) -

Bernie Sanders is coming back to Oregon for a rally in Springfield on Thursday.

The Democratic presidential candidate made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

The event is set to begin at Island Park, 200 W. B St., at 10 a.m. Thursday. The rally is free and open to the public, with admission on a first come-first served basis.

Attendees are asked to limit what they bring to only small personal items like keys and cell phones. Weapons, sharp objects, chairs, and signs or banners on sticks will not be allowed through security.

Sanders spoke at a rally at the Moda Center in Portland last month. Thousands of enthusiastic supporters lined up hours before the event.

His campaign said Sanders would discuss a wide range of issues at the Springfield rally Thursday, including universal health care, tuition-free public colleges and universities and combating climate change.

Sanders lost primaries to Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Connecticut this week, while defeating his Democratic challenger in Rhode Island.

The Oregon primary election is May 17.
