PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The City of Portland is effectively evicting a small group of homeless RV campers near Boise Eliot Elementary School in North Portland.

Campers found illegal parking citations on their vehicles Wednesday morning, and a notice that they would have to move in 72 hours.

Ben Perrins, who currently parks his RV on Cook Street, just across from the Boise Eliot playground, said he and his family aren’t sure what’s next.

“We don’t really know where we’re going to go because we’ve pretty much worn out every neighborhood,” said Perrins, who said he’s been living on the streets for about the last two years.

The eviction of sorts comes on the heels of a report by a parent on Monday that a man wearing a clown mask was waving at children on their way to school.

“He made us look real bad,” said Perrins. “We don’t want to see anybody over here messing with kids.”

Perrins said the man was asked to leave the camp, and has not returned.

Rachel Benson, who lives half a block from the parked vehicles, said she hasn’t had any problems with the people there, but admitted the camp did make her uneasy.

“As somebody that lives nearby, it doesn’t necessarily make me feel comfortable to walk at night,” said Benson.

Perrins, meanwhile, said he has two school-age children, and is in the process of trying to find an apartment, with help from social services.

Until then, he said, he’ll be looking for a new place to park.
