WOOD VILLAGE, OR (KPTV) -

A man who was hit by a marked Multnomah County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle died at the hospital Friday.

Investigators said a deputy had been driving west on the 24000 block of Sandy Boulevard around 4 a.m. Friday when he struck a man who was in the road and not in a crosswalk.

The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Deputies said he was later pronounced dead.

The sheriff's office said the deputy had been on a routine patrol of the area.

The Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division Major Crash Team is conducting an investigation. The results will be turned over to the Multnomah County district attorney's office for review.

The deputy involved in the collision is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in this type of incident, according to the sheriff's office.
