GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

The Gresham Police Department has identified the man involved in Wednesday night’s shooting of a Fairview officer.

Police said David Allen Charlton, 40, remains in custody at a hospital after he engaged in a firefight with Fairview Officer Scott Shropshire and Gresham Officer Michael Brooder on Couch Lane in Gresham.

Police said Charlton was a wanted felon after he violated his parole stemming from a 1999 bank robbery. He served 13 years in prison.

Shropshire and Brooders confronted Charlton around 11 p.m. Wednesday after he crashed his car into a fence outside an apartment complex. Police said Charlton was seen grabbing bags from the car before he ran away from the scene.

Both Charlton and Shropshire suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds, according to police.

Shropshire was treated and released from the hospital Thursday.

Charlton is currently facing two counts of aggravated attempted murder and police said he is likely to face additional charges related to unlawful possession and use of a weapon.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call the Gresham Police Department tip line at 503-618-2719.
